Nunez named HBCUAC Pitcher of the Week

Southern University at New Orleans pitcher Christopher Nunez was named HBCU Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week after his performance against Huston-Tillotson University. The Knights defeated the Rams 2-0 with Nunez on the mound. The conference made the announcement Monday.

Nunez went seven innings Saturday against Huston-Tillotson — the second-best team in the West Division — allowing just 2 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks, and striking out four on 85 pitches in a 2-0 complete game shutout. His performance helped the Knights win the series and improve to 10-9 on the season.

"Chris is overdue for this honor," said Head Coach Olen Parker, Jr. "His work on the mound has been a major key to our success since he got here. He has improved a lot this year, working on his technique and ball placement. Great pitching wins games, and that is what he's bringing to the table for us."

The Knights are back at Wesley Barrow Stadium on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. to take on William Carey University. Fans can watch Nunez and the Knights in-person by purchasing a ticket at the gate ($10) or online via Urban Edge Network: https://urbanedgenetwork.net/watch/5497
