Men's Basketball: Knights Look to Bounce Back on the Road
After splitting their opening week with a Homecoming win over Texas A&M–San Antonio and a hard-fought loss to crosstown rival Xavier University, the SUNO men's basketball team (1-1) is headed to Waxahachie, Texas, for a two-game road swing.
The Knights will first face Nelson University on Thursday, October 31 at 7 p.m., followed by a matchup with Texas Wesleyan University on Friday, November 1 at 2 p.m.

The Knights are led by junior standout Jamal "Tall" Gibson, who has opened the season in dominant fashion with back-to-back double-doubles—combining for 46 points and 38 rebounds across two games. His size, touch, and relentlessness on the boards have set the tone for SUNO early in the season.
Following Wednesday's 82–64 loss to Xavier, the Knights are looking to bounce back by focusing on defensive consistency and ball movement—two areas Head Coach James A. Matthews, III emphasized as keys to success.
"Both Nelson and Texas Wesleyan are disciplined, well-coached teams that will test our toughness," Matthews said. "We need to execute, defend, and finish plays at the rim. These are the kinds of games that reveal a team's character."
To pull off upsets on the road, SUNO will look to get better ball control and pacing of the game from its backcourt, and freshman wing Jaylon Hicks, who electrified fans with a 24-point debut in the Homecoming win. The Knights' ability to control tempo, rebound effectively, and limit turnovers will be crucial in their push for two statement wins before returning home.
