SUNO Women’s Basketball Announces 2025–26 Schedule
Harris, Jack return to lead the backcourt; Jakhiya Smith gives the Knights an inside boost
The Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) Women's Basketball program has released its official 2025–26 schedule, featuring a balanced mix of regional non-conference opponents and key Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) dates. The Knights return experienced perimeter play from Jordan Harris and Kaylan Jack, and will look to sophomore Jakhiya Smith to anchor the paint as SUNO builds on its program-best progress from the 2024–25 season.
SUNO finished 2024–25 with an 8–19 overall record and 6–11 in HBCUAC play, the program's strongest season since 2013. Under Head Coach Destinie Smith, the Knights were an offensive force in the conference — ranking fifth in total points (1,800) and third in scoring (66.7 ppg) — and finished inside the top five in several team categories including field goal attempts (64.5 per game), three-pointers made (5.3 per game), rebounds (42.6 total per game), and assists (13.5 per game).
Leaders returning and a high-efficiency inside game
- Jordan Harris (G) — Coming off a breakout season in which she ranked third in the HBCUAC in three-point percentage (35.8%), scored 353 points (8th in the league) and knocked down 62 triples (4th in the conference). Harris enters 2025–26 just 40 points away from 1,000 career points and is expected to be a primary scoring option and veteran leader.
- Kaylan Jack (G) — A glue-player in the backcourt whose defensive instincts, playmaking and late-game poise were vital to last season's conference wins. Her leadership will be important as the Knights face multiple rematches with conference foes.
- Jakhiya Smith (F/C) — After an efficient freshman year in which she ranked No. 2 in the HBCUAC in field goal percentage (56.4%), Smith returns as a physical inside scorer and rebounder who will complement SUNO's up-tempo perimeter attack.
Coach's note
"We learned a lot last season — about competing, about depth, and about how to close games," said Head Coach Destinie Smith. "Jordan and Kaylan bring the veteran poise we need, and Jakhiya's efficiency inside gives us a dynamic two-front attack. This schedule will test us, but it also gives our team the chance to continue the positive trajectory we started last year."
New Year, New Outlook
SUNO's 2024–25 campaign featured important wins that set the foundation for the upcoming season. Of the teams on the 2025–26 slate, the Knights:
- Registered two wins over Wiley University during the 2024–25 season.
- Earned two victories over the University of the Virgin Islands last season.
Those results — plus the Knights' placement among the HBCUAC leaders in scoring and efficiency — provide momentum as SUNO prepares for a demanding 2025–26 slate.
