Game Preview: SUNO Women’s Basketball vs. University of Mobile
Saturday, November 15 • 1 p.m. • The Castle
SUNO Women's Basketball team returns to The Castle on Saturday afternoon looking to continue its strong start to the 2025–26 season. The Knights enter the matchup at 4–1, riding the momentum of last week's win over Pensacola Christian. SUNO has been dominant on its home floor, posting a 3–1 record at The Castle so far this year.
Meanwhile, the University of Mobile Rams come in at 1–4, searching for consistency as they wrap up the early non-conference slate.
SUNO SEASON SNAPSHOT
The Knights have been one of the league's most balanced and productive offenses in the opening five games. SUNO averages 77.8 points per game while shooting 39.6% from the field and a strong 34.7% from three-point range. The Knights also crash the boards hard, pulling down 42.4 rebounds per game, including nearly 18 offensive boards a game.
Key Contributors
- Tierra Sylvas (Guard/Forward)
SUNO's most efficient scorer so far, Sylvas leads the team with 84 points, averaging 16.8 points per game on 47.4% shooting. She also adds 7.8 rebounds per contest and provides steady two-way leadership. - Jordan Harris (Guard)
Harris continues her veteran leadership, scoring 15.0 points per game, with 12 made threes so far. She's also averaging nearly 6 rebounds and 4 assists, showcasing her all-around game. - Hannah Cornelious & Jakhiya Smith (Frontcourt)
The duo gives SUNO frontcourt stability, combining for 65 total rebounds through five games. Smith's efficiency (52.9% FG) has been a spark off the bench, while Cornelious provides a steady interior presence.
Team Strengths So Far
- Balanced scoring: Five players averaging over 10 points per game.
- Defensive disruption: SUNO forces 22.2 opponent turnovers per game and averages 12.2 steals—a major driver of transition scoring.
- High-effort rebounding: 42.4 rebounds per game, with a strong offensive rebounding rate.
- Home confidence: 3–1 at The Castle with an average of 77.3 points per game on their home court.
SCOUTING THE UNIVERSITY OF MOBILE
The Rams enter Saturday's matchup at 1–4 and have struggled to find offensive rhythm. According to Mobile's season stats, the Rams have had difficulty scoring consistently and have allowed opponents to generate high percentage looks throughout the early season.
Key challenges SUNO may face:
- Mobile typically plays a slower-paced game and will aim to limit SUNO's transition opportunities.
- The Rams look to their backcourt scoring and rely on perimeter shooting to stay competitive.
However, Mobile has been vulnerable:
- They've had trouble containing strong offensive teams.
- Opponents have had success on the glass—an area that SUNO excels in.
KEYS TO VICTORY FOR SUNO
1. Push the Tempo
SUNO's best offense comes in transition, where their athleticism and depth shine. Capitalizing on turnovers—something SUNO already forces at a high rate—will be crucial.
2. Dominate the Boards
The Knights own a +42 offensive rebounding margin through five games (17.8 per game). Extrapossessions will be a major advantage against a Mobile team that has struggled on the glass.
3. Continue Balanced Scoring
With Sylvas, Wilson, Harris, and others all capable of leading the offense, SUNO's depth makes them difficult to guard. Maintaining that spread scoring keeps defenses from keying in on one player.
4. Defensive Discipline
While SUNO forces turnovers well, they also average 18.8 fouls per game. Staying aggressive but disciplined will prevent Mobile from scoring easy points at the free-throw line.
WHAT'S AT STAKE
A win would push SUNO to 5–1, continuing one of the strongest starts in the program's modern era. It would also give the Knights a 4–1 home mark and set the tone heading into the next stretch of non-conference play.
The Castle has been good to the Knights so far—and with another strong performance, SUNO looks poised to protect home court once again.
