Kaylan Jack Sets the Score with Steady, Dominant Play for SUNO Women’s Basketball
Consistency is often the mark of a great player, and for SUNO Women's Basketball, Kaylan Jack has become the definition of dependable excellence. Night after night, the junior guard has delivered steady production, relentless effort, and timely scoring—establishing herself as one of the Knights' most reliable performers this season. In a recent interview with HBCU basketball reporter Liv Antilla, known as Liv for Hoops on social media, Jack details her path to becoming more than a great hooper, but becoming a great leader.
Jack has started all 11 games for SUNO and is averaging 13.8 points per game, leading the Knights with 152 total points through the first portion of the season. Her offensive impact has been felt across multiple matchups, including a season-high 25 points against Dillard on Dec. 9, where she played all 40 minutes and knocked down 10 field goals, including five three-pointers.
"Kaylan brings the same mindset every single day," said SUNO Head Coach Destinie Smith. "Whether she scores 10 or 25, her approach never changes. She prepares the same, competes the same, and that mindset is what makes her special."
That performance was not an outlier. Jack has scored 20 or more points in four games, showing her ability to take control offensively when the Knights need it most. She poured in 24 points against Mobile, 20 at Wiley, and 18 versus Huston-Tillotson, consistently answering the call against conference and non-conference opponents alike.
"When the moment calls for someone to step up, Kaylan doesn't shy away from it," Smith said. "She wants the responsibility, and she understands the team needs her to consistently show up."
What separates Jack is not just her scoring totals, but her efficiency and versatility. She has posted standout shooting performances, including 63.6 percent shooting at Philander Smith and 55.6 percent against Mobile, while also stretching defenses with her perimeter shooting. Jack has been a steady threat from beyond the arc, with multiple games featuring three or more made three-pointers.
"She's grown tremendously in being able to see her scoring opportunities, as well as in her confidence," Smith said. "She's been placed in some new defensive roles, and that's allowed her to be efficient while still being aggressive."
Beyond scoring, Jack contributes across the stat sheet. She averages 3.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 2.5 steals per game, highlighted by a nine-steal performance against Louisiana Christian, showcasing her defensive intensity and ability to disrupt opposing offenses.
"Kaylan has really embraced defensive play this year," Smith added. "She recognizes that, even when her shot isn't falling, she can still make a major impact. Her energy and focus on defense fuel her offensive and have helped her grow into a more consistent, all-around player.
Perhaps most impressive is Jack's stamina and reliability. She has logged heavy minutes throughout the season, including 40 minutes against Dillard and 39 minutes against Paul Quinn, proving she can be trusted in high-pressure situations.
"She's earned that trust," Smith said. "She's mentally tough, physically prepared, and she understands what it takes to compete for 40 minutes."
As SUNO continues its season, Kaylan Jack remains a constant—bringing energy, confidence, and production every time she steps onto the court. Her consistent scoring, two-way play, and leadership have made her a cornerstone of the Knights' lineup and a driving force behind the team's competitive edge.
