Knights Seek Redemption Against Tougaloo in Home Rematch
SUNO women’s basketball returns to The Castle on Saturday morning looking to avenge a heartbreaking two-point road loss to Tougaloo earlier this month.
NEW ORLEANS - January 23, 2026 – The SUNO women's basketball team returns to The Castle on Saturday, January 24, hosting Tougaloo College at 10 a.m. in HBCU Athletic Conference action as the Knights look to turn a challenging stretch into a fresh start on their home floor.
Despite recent losses, SUNO has continued to show it can compete with any team in the conference. That was evident in the teams' last meeting on Saturday, January 10, when the Knights pushed Tougaloo to the final second before falling 60–58 on a buzzer-beating basket in Tougaloo, Mississippi.
In that matchup, SUNO clawed back after trailing by seven at halftime, matching Tougaloo point-for-point in the second half and holding a lead late in the fourth quarter. Kyren Wilson led the Knights with 20 points, knocking down four three-pointers, while Jordan Harris added 16 points, including key free throws down the stretch. Hannah Cornelious anchored the paint with 11 rebounds, helping SUNO stay within striking distance throughout the game.
The difference came down to possessions. Tougaloo outrebounded SUNO 40–34, including 20 offensive rebounds, creating crucial second-chance opportunities that ultimately set up the game-winning score at the buzzer. Turnovers also played a role, as the Knights were forced into 25 turnovers that led to transition chances for the Bulldogs.
For SUNO, Saturday's rematch presents a clear blueprint for improvement. Securing defensive rebounds, valuing the basketball, and converting late-game opportunities will be key as the Knights look to finish what they started in the first meeting. Offensively, SUNO will aim to continue its strong perimeter shooting while finding more balance inside to control tempo.
Back at home in The Castle, the Knights will look to channel the confidence gained from how close the January 10 contest was and translate it into a complete performance as they work to get back to their winning ways from earlier in the season.
