SUNO Sweeps Rust for First Win of the Season
The Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) Knights Volleyball team earned their first victory of the season in convincing fashion, sweeping Rust College 3-0 (25-21, 25-11, 25-14) Friday night inside The Castle.
After a tightly contested opening set, the Knights found their rhythm and dominated the rest of the way. SUNO hit .236 as a team, steadily improving as the match went on with a .359 attack percentage in the second set and .357 in the third.

Freshman Kiki Alba also shined with eight kills, while setter Taszia Adkinson orchestrated the offense brilliantly, dishing out 31 assists to go along with four digs and two block assists.
Samaria Berry provided a spark from the service line with four aces, while Malaysia Hudson chipped in four kills and an ace of her own. Defensively, Armoni Harris anchored the back row with a team-high 14 digs, helping SUNO hold Rust to a -.024 hitting percentage for the match.
The Knights showed resilience in the opening set, overcoming early errors to edge out Rust 25-21. From there, SUNO took control, racing out to an early lead in the second set and never looking back in a dominant 25-11 win. The third set followed a similar script, with SUNO pulling away late to secure a 25-14 victory and complete the sweep.
With the win, SUNO improves to 1-4 overall, while Rust falls to 0-5. The Knights will look to build on this momentum as they continue their homestand at The Castle Saturday against NCAA Division 1 opponent Mississippi Valley State University.
