SUNO Shows Grit as Match Progresses, but Falls to Mobile
by: Simone Littleford, Intern
Set 1 – Mobile 25, SUNO 12
SUNO started the match with kills from Taszia Adkinson and Samaria Berry, and Mobile responded, gaining momentum with pressure from Emma McPherson and Hannah Ellis. SUNO's defense was tested often, and despite some strong blocking attempts, but Mobile's balanced attack carried them to the opening set.
Set 2 – Mobile 25, SUNO 13
The Knights worked hard to slow down Mobile, with KK Dozier and Kiki Alba putting down strong kills. SUNO also found energy off the bench from Malaysia Hudson, who helped spark their offense. However, the Rams continued to capitalize at the net, with Corrina Porch-Maxey and Jennifer Cope combining for multiple blocks. Mobile's depth pushed them to a 2–0 lead, despite SUNO's resilience throughout the set.
Set 3 – Mobile 25, SUNO 19
SUNO delivered its strongest performance in the final frame. Adkinson fired an ace and added several kills, while Hudson and Berry teamed up to close the gap, pulling SUNO within two points late. Kiersten Secrease also provided energy with a service ace and a kill to keep SUNO in striking distance. SUNO forced the Rams to fight for every point, but Mobile ultimately secured the sweep with late kills from Peyton Frazer.
Hudson led the Knights with five kills, hitting .444. Adkinson and Berry each added four kills. Defenisively, Armoni Harris tallied nine digs, while Cai Hales and Adkinson grabbed seven digs a piece.
The Knights return to The Castle this weekend to open conference play with matches against Wiley University on Friday at 6 p.m. and Philander Smith University on Saturday at 1 p.m.
