SUNO Women’s Basketball Opens Season 2-0 after 89-81 Win Over Harris-Stowe Hornets
NEW ORLEANS, LA – November 3, 2025 – Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) Knights Women's Basketball earned an 89-81 victory over Harris-Stowe State University at The Castle on Saturday afternoon.
Senior forward Tierra Sylvas led the Knights with a dominant all-around performance, finishing with 28 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists while shooting an efficient 11-for-16 from the field. Sylvas was unstoppable in the paint and instrumental in sealing the win with clutch baskets in the fourth quarter.
Freshman guard Katelynn Wilson added 19 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists, showing off her mid-range consistency and composure under pressure. Senior guard Jordan Harris filled the stat sheet with 13 points, 5 assists, and 3 steals, while sophomore Kyren Wilson made a major impact off the bench with 14 points and 3 steals in 17 minutes of play.
SUNO came out firing, shooting a blistering 61% in the opening quarter to take a 27–20 lead. The Hornets closed the gap in the second quarter, but a late jumper by Sylvas before halftime kept the Knights within reach, tied 43–43 at the break.
After a back-and-forth third quarter, SUNO took control in the fourth with poise and execution. The Knights shot 60% in the final frame and forced key turnovers, turning defense into offense behind strong on-ball pressure from Harris and Jack. A midrange jumper from Sylvas with just over a minute remaining pushed the lead to 15—the Knights' largest of the game—and secured the season-opening win.
SUNO's defense was equally crucial, forcing 26 Harris-Stowe turnovers and converting them into 43 points off turnovers. The Knights also posted 19 assists on 32 made field goals, showcasing their team chemistry and balance.
For Harris-Stowe, Alivia Montgomery led all scorers with 31 points, while Cailynn Dilosa added 20.
With the win, SUNO starts the season 2–0 and will look to build on this momentum as they head into their next matchup on November 4 at Louisiana Christian University, a team they beat in their season opener on October 28.
