SUNO Knights Volleyball Opens 2025 Season at Big Easy Blastoff

NEW ORLEANS [August 28, 2025] -- The Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) Knights Volleyball team kicks off the 2025 season on Thursday, August 28 at 6 p.m. against crosstown rival Xavier University of Louisiana (XULA) Gold Rush. The matchup is the first of four for SUNO in the Big Easy Blastoff, hosted by Xavier inside the Convocation Center.

Fans can tune in to watch the season opener live on the Gold Rush YouTube channel and follow along with real-time updates via live stats.

The Knights enter the year led by junior defensive specialist Armoni Harris, a Chalmette, La. native who has emerged as the anchor of SUNO's back row. Harris was named to the All-HBCUAC First Team in 2024 and recently earned RICE Fame Group HBCU Makeda Excellence Awards Women's Volleyball Player of the Year.

Last season, Harris established herself as one of the premier defenders in the conference, finishing first in digs per set and ranking fifth overall with 319 total digs during the regular season. She was especially dominant in league play, where she posted 234 total digs and 5.2 digs per set, both tops in the HBCUAC. Her steady play kept SUNO competitive throughout the year, as she committed just 27 errors in 485 receptions—good for fourth-best in the conference. Known as SUNO's "court general," Harris provides not only defensive stability but also leadership, guiding her teammates and creating smooth offensive transitions.
